Huntsman installs 180kW rooftop solar facility at Chakan plant in Pune, India
Latest: Huntsman commissions 180 kilowatts (kW) at its state-of-the-art polyurethane manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune, India
of rooftop solar installations as part of the company’s commitment to building a sustainable low-carbon economy in support of carbon neutrality.
The Chakan plant is an important manufacturing base for Huntsman in the world and one of Huntsman’s largest production bases in India. It is built to global standards and equipped with all the necessary technologies to ensure safe and environmentally friendly operations. The Chakan facility provides production facilities for the MDI-based Polyurethanes business unit, which serves more than 500 customers in surrounding countries in the footwear, automotive and construction sectors.
Huntsman said the solar facility is expected to generate 300,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, or about 60 percent of the plant’s total energy needs.
The system is connected to the government-operated grid through network metering, which not only ensures load balancing, but also feeds excess power back to the grid.
