The implementation of the most stringent environmental protection standards in history Water-based coatings emerging in response to the trend have become the industry’s development outlet

China’s coating industry is developing rapidly. In 2016, my country’s output of coating reached 18.9978 million tons, and it has become the world’s largest paint producer. However, The environmental protection of coating products has always been a topic of concern in the industry.
1. Traditional coatings emit large amounts of harmful gases, which are harmful to health
Traditional coatings have a great impact on the atmospheric environment and human health. Traditional paints use organic solvents as diluents and contain a large amount of volatile organic compounds (VOC), such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, formaldehyde, methanol, ethylene glycol and other harmful substances. These substances are harmful to the human body through inhalation or skin contact. cause some damages. When the VOC in the room reaches a certain concentration, people will feel headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, etc. in a short time. In severe cases, they will have convulsions, coma and even death, and will damage the liver, kidneys, brain and nervous system. Causes serious consequences such as memory loss.
At present, hundreds of thousands of tons of solvent volatilize into the atmosphere during the construction of coatings in our country. According to statistics, about 2.2 million tons of VOC are emitted into the air every year in my country, which is equivalent to the total amount of air inhaled by 1.3 billion Chinese people for 16 consecutive hours, and is increasing at an average annual rate of 9%. Data shows that industrial solvents account for about 30% of the total VOC emissions and become one of the main emission sources, while the VOC emissions of coating adhesives account for about 70% of industrial solvents. The total annual emissions reached 4 million tons, which is about the total annual VOC emissions of 60 million vehicles. This is equivalent to the emissions from burning 270 million tons of coal.
2. Health and environmental protection, water-based coatings usher in development opportunities
Water-based paint Compared with oil-based paints, it can greatly reduce VOCs emissions, because water-based paints use water as a diluent. During the spraying process, water is volatilized, which is non-toxic and non-toxic. Harmful. The biggest feature of water-based paint is that it greatly reduces the emission of harmful gases during the use of the paint. The unit content of VOC in water-based wood paint is 20%, and the unit content of traditional nitrocellulose paint is 70%. As people’s awareness of environmental protection increases, the demand for water-based coatings in the Chinese market is increasing. It has become an indispensable auxiliary material in the construction, furniture, and automotive industries.
3. Tighter policies will further stimulate market demand for water-based coatings
European and American countries have strict restrictions on the VOC and harmful gases contained in additives. Since 2010, European regulatory agencies have revised some industry standards to further reduce VOC.
As the country pays more and more attention to environmental protection, the supervision (penalties) of environmental pollution by the regulatory authorities is increasing. Many coating factories have clearly felt that this time Just “just talk”. On July 1, 2016, Beijing began to implement the “Wooden Furniture Manufacturing Air Pollutant Emission Standard”, which can be called the “most stringent environmental protection standard” for the furniture manufacturing industry. The biggest aspect is the air pollution in the production process of the wooden furniture manufacturing industry. In addition to the regulatory requirements for the concentration limits of chemical emissions, the most prominent point is the full use of water-based paint in 2017. The entire life cycle of water-based coatings from the source of raw materials to production and use is conducive to the healthy development of the environment. Thanks to the support of environmental protection policies, water-based coatings have been favored by coating manufacturers in recent years.
According to the “2017-2022 China Waterborne Coating Industry Market Demand and Investment Planning Analysis Report” issued by the Qianzhan Industry Research Institute: my country’s apparent demand for waterborne coatings in 2016 was approximately 1.89 million Tons, accounting for less than 10% of the coating industry. With the expansion of the application range of water-based coatings, it is predicted that the proportion of water-based coatings in my country will reach 20% within five years. It is predicted that by 2022, the demand for China’s water-based coatings market will reach 6.34 million tons, with a compound growth rate of more than 20%, and the industry market volume is objective!
