SunSirs: The Market for Chloroform Fell Sharply in August

　　The price of chloroform fell sharply in August. According to the data monitoring of SunSirs, the price of chloroform in Shandong area was 3,750 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month, and the price of chloroform at the end of the month was 3,150 RMB/ton, and it was down 16% in the month.

　　Analysis review

　　The start of the domestic methane chloride plant changed in August. Overall, the start of the methane chloride plant started at a relatively high level at the beginning of August, and the plant load decreased in the second half of August.

　　The price of raw liquid chlorine was consolidating at a low level, and the impact of cost was relatively bearish. The price of methanol rose slightly, with little impact on chloroform. According to SunSirs, as of the end of August, the mainstream ex-factory price of liquid chlorine for tank trucks in Shandong was around 800 RMB/ton; the price of methanol dropped from 2,585 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month to 2,615 RMB/ton at the end of the month, an overall increase of 1.16%.

　　Finally, in early August, domestic refrigerant installations such as Jiangsu Sanmei and Meilan were shut down for maintenance. The overall operating rate of the refrigerant industry was not high, and the demand was weak. In the later period, with the completion of the overhaul of the refrigerant enterprises, the overall start-up was improved, which supported the trichloromethane.

　　Methane chloride data analysts of SunSirs believe that after the sharp drop in July and August, chloroform basically stopped falling and stabilized in mid-to-late August. In addition, the current overall operating rate of chloroform is not high. The price of chloroform is expected to remain stable and fluctuate within a narrow range in the short term, but in the medium and long term, it is still possible that chloroform will fall further.
