Evonik to launch three new photopolymers for 3D printing
Latest News: Evonik has launched three new INFINAM photopolymers for industrial 3D printing, expanding the product line of photopolymers launched since last year. These products are used in common UV curing 3D printing processes such as SLA or DLP. In less than two years, Evonik said it has launched a total of seven new formulations of photopolymers, “making the material more diverse in additive manufacturing.”
The three novel photopolymers are:
● INFINAM RG 2000L
● INFINAM RG 7100L
● INFINAM TI 5400L
INFINAM RG 2000
L is a photosensitive resin used in the eyewear industry. Evonik says the clear liquid solidifies quickly and is easy to process. The company says its low yellowing index, even under prolonged UV exposure, is not only attractive for additively manufactured eyeglass frames, but also for applications such as microfluidic reactors or transparent high-end models for viewing complex components inner workings.
The light transmission properties of RG 2000 L also open up further applications such as lenses, light guides and lampshades.
INFINAM RG 7100
L was developed specifically for DLP printers and can be used to produce parts with isotropy and low moisture absorption. Evonik says its mechanical properties are comparable to ABS materials, and the black formulation can be used in high-throughput printer systems.
Evonik said the RG 7100
L has refined properties, such as smooth and glossy surfaces, that make it ideal for demanding visualization designs. It can also be applied to drones, belt buckles, or automotive parts that require high ductility and high impact strength. The company says the parts can be machined to maintain fracture resistance even when subjected to high forces.
INFINAM TI 5400
L is an example focused on product development. Evonik said it is responding to requests from customers, particularly in the Asian region, to supply PVC-like resins for limited-edition designers in the toy market.
Evonik says the white material is ideal for objects with a high degree of detail and excellent surface quality. According to the company, the surface quality of the material is virtually indistinguishable from comparable injection molded parts, it combines “excellent” impact strength with high elongation at break, and exhibits durable thermomechanical properties.
“As one of Evonik’s six innovative growth areas, we are above the industry average in terms of investing in new formulations or further development of existing products,” said Evonik’s Head of R&D and Innovative Additive Manufacturing. Printing is permanently established as the foundation of a large-scale industrial manufacturing technology.”
Evonik will present the new products at the Formnext 2022 trade fair in Frankfurt later this month.
Evonik also recently introduced a new grade of INFINAM polyamide 12 material that significantly reduces CO2 emissions.
