The first national standard for interior wall paint for children’s room decoration will be officially implemented on May 1

From May 1st, GB/T 34676-2017 “interior wall paint for children’s room decoration” will be officially implemented. This standard will change the current situation where there is no uniform standard for domestic children’s paint products, and further protect home safety.
On November 1, 2017, the former General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the National Standardization Administration officially released GB/T 34676-2017 “Children’s Room Decoration Interior Wall Coating“. This is the first national standard for interior wall paint for children’s room decoration.
It is understood that in the traditional classification of paint industry, there is no such category as “children’s paint” or “children’s paint“. And my country has not issued a national standard for children’s paint. In other words, “children’s paint” is a concept created by coating companies based on market demand, and it has not been “corrected” by the country. Some large paint companies also produce children’s paint according to their own standards. The performance of their products may indeed be higher than that of ordinary paint products, but the corporate standards are generally not announced to the outside world, so ordinary consumers have no way of knowing.
In order to effectively solve this industry problem, in 2015, the national standard of “Children’s room decoration water-based wood coating” was promulgated, filling the gap where there is no uniform standard for domestic children’s coating products. Safety and environmental protection have since been guaranteed by the national standard.
In 2017, the national standard “Interior Wall Coatings for Children’s Room Decoration” was officially released and will be officially implemented on May 1 this year. According to industry insiders, the national standard of “Children’s Room Decoration Interior Wall Coatings” and the “Children’s Room Decoration Water-based Wood Coatings” national standard will promote technological progress in the industry and standardize the coating market. Consumers’ correct choice of children’s products plays a positive role in guiding.
GB/T 34676-2017 “Interior Wall Coatings for Children’s Room Decoration” is applicable to synthetic resin emulsion as the base material, formulated with pigments, extender pigments and various additives. After application, it can form a smooth and thin surface. High-quality coatings for interior walls, including topcoats and primers, are mainly used for interior wall decoration in children’s rooms, kindergartens and other children’s activities.
The requirements for environmental protection indicators are far stricter than the existing national standards and environmental protection standards. It has set up 17 indicator items covering comprehensive resistance to pollution, VOC, and soluble heavy metals, and is in line with international development trends. It is worth noting that the new national standard introduced the asbestos project for the first time, and at the same time introduced a new formaldehyde test method, making the content of the standard more comprehensive and scientific.
