Recently, Sina Home and Covestro jointly released the “Survey Report on the Status of Coatings Application in Chinese Furniture Enterprises”, which visually analyzed the current situation and pain points of the coating applications of large and medium-sized local furniture companies in the current stage through data.
It is understood that the survey was conducted in more than 30 key cities across the country, and surveyed 42 large and medium-sized solid wood furniture manufacturers, including several major furniture distribution centers in Beijing, Jiangsu, Sichuan, and Guangdong, and collected questionnaires. 38 copies and 38 valid questionnaires. These furniture manufacturers include bedroom furniture, living room furniture, cabinet bathroom furniture and children’s furniture and other categories, and are in the forefront of the market in their respective fields.
According to the survey results, almost all furniture companies believe that consumers are willing to pay higher prices for better appearance and durability. In actual sales, nearly 90% of furniture companies will introduce the quality and differences of coatings to consumers.
Paint upgrade, environmental protection is in the lead, two-component water-based paint becomes the first choice
For the transformation and upgrading of enterprises and better future development, more than 80% of the interviewed companies have begun to use more environmentally friendly and high-quality raw and auxiliary materials, and more than 60% of the interviewed companies have actively upgraded production equipment such as water-based coating lines. For furniture coating solutions, furniture companies pay the most attention to the performance and appearance of the coatings, and believe that the performance of water-based coatings is the most important point in determining whether the coating transition can be successfully realized ( 74%).
Some leading domestic furniture companies have already implemented coating upgrades first, and the active use of environmental coatings by leading companies will also drive the enthusiasm of many small and medium-sized enterprises to switch to environmentally friendly coatings. More than 70% of the surveyed companies have achieved more than 50% of the use of environmentally friendly coatings. Among them, the number of companies using more than 75% of the environmentally friendly coatings has reached more than half of the total respondents. Nearly three-quarters of the interviewed companies indicated that they will further increase the use of environmentally friendly coatings. Currently, two-component water-based paint is the environmentally-friendly paint (42%) with the highest proportion of the interviewed furniture companies. Low odor, high hardness, scratch resistance, yellowing resistance, stain resistance, and high fullness are the main reasons why furniture companies choose two-component water-based paint. Especially for solid wood furniture, due to the particularity of its appearance design and material selection, the requirements for the coating process are also higher, especially for new high-performance environmentally friendly coatings such as two-component water-based paints.
Compared with the more mature European and American markets, China’s water-based furniture paint is in a critical period of development. As for the domestic furniture industry as a whole, the market share of water-based furniture paint is still less than 10%. At the same time, industry insiders said: “Through the joint efforts of the entire industry chain, the leaders in the domestic furniture market have adjusted the proportion of mid-to-high-end products by applying high-performance two-component water-based coatings, thereby enhancing brand competition in the market. We expect that during 2015-2020, the growth rate of water-based furniture coatings in the Chinese market will be higher than 20%, and the growth rate of high-performance two-component water-based paints will be even higher, especially in terms of appearance and performance. The field of high-demand solid wood furniture has a lot to do.”
